SAY POWER BOARD

A REDUCTION ON CURRENT NEW LOW KATE OF ID. The monthly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Electric Power Board was held in the .hoard’s offices at Opotiki yesterday. Present: Messrs. \V. T. Burrett (chairman), Burt, Maxwell, Mitchell, Sum inner and Spence. Air. J. D. Dicker (engineer-manager) and Air. G. A. Hathaway (secretary) wore also in attendance. The chief matter under discussion was that portion of the engineermanager’s estimates deterred from the previous meeting, whereby Air. Dicker recommended to the board for consideration, a further reduction of per cent, on units consumed by electric ranges. The main factors in favour of the nature of the reduction were that the hoard recognises that a large per centago of its revenue is derived from domestic load—43.G per cent, of the total —and that this reduction will undoubtedly encourage further range and domestic appliance load which should assist in, making it possible for the board to later reduce the charges to other sections of consumers. The board is toi he congratulated on having reached a stage where rural consumers can receive electric supply, on such favourable terms as Id. per unit for electric ranges and domestic appliances umpled with free service and repairs on all ranges.
