Burton was a week-end visitor to her parents in Opotiki from Alatamata. VALEDICTORY JMISS BETTY MAXWELL The members of the. Presbyterian Bible Classes met together recently in S-t. John's Hall to bid farewell to one of their most popular and energetic members. Miss Betty Maxwell. • prior to her departure for Pukekohe. Games were enjoyed during the first part of the evening, many new and amusing games making their appearance. After supper had l been served, .Mrs. J. G. Murray, in a. very appropriate speech, expressed the regret of the Bible Class members at Miss Maxwell’s departure. She also dwelt briefly on Miss Maxwell's valuable work for the movement in Opotiki. A presentation of a bouquet by Miss Pita Baird followed', after which the P ; ev. A. C. Hampton also expressed regret at Mi.ss Maxwell’s departure, and mentioning how keenly the loss of her valuable services’would be felt by the! various classes. Miss Elinor Murray added a few words, and on behalf of the members of the Bible Classes', presented! Aliiss A lax well with a fine travelling rug. In a very fitting little speech, Miss Maxwell thanked those assembled, and said that she was genuinely sorry to leave Opotiki. The evening closed with the singing of “For a Jolly Good Fellow” and . “Auld Lang Syne.” FOOTBALL AND CRICKET DANCE ILK LI) AT WOODLANDS A combined football and cricket dance was held in the 'Woodlands Hail on Monday, June sth. The music was supplied by Boy Parkes and his Rhythm Boys. Monte Carlos were won by Miss Sargent and Air. J. AlcGregor jnr, Aliss C. Barbour and Air. .0. Williams. During the evening presentations were made' to Alessrs R» Smith and J. AlcGregor. Each, was the recipient of cricket balls with which they had performed the “hat trick”. Air. Smith was successful when playig for Opotiki against. Tauranga for the Attnll Cup in February, 1939, white Mr. AlcGregor put up his performance: against the Old Collegnias in 1938. REBEKAH LODGE ANNUAL DANCE HOLIDAY FUNCTION There was a good attendance in the Lyric Hall on Alonclay night, when the annual dance of the ltebekah Lodge was held. Winners of Monte Carlos were: Miss L. Pennell and Air. B. Patterson, Aliss T. Parkinson and Mr. H. Hollis. Music was supplied by Me Donga 11 and his Hot Scots and extras were contributed, by-- Aliss J• Downey and Aliss D. Young. The duties of AL.C. were performed by Air. ' AlcDougall.
