BAY POWER BOARD

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT The retiring chairman, Air. E. J. Burt, presented the following annual report:— 1 have the honour to present the following general report for the year ending 31st. - March, 1939, which is the tenth complete year„ since the beard commenced supplying power to consumers. Unfortunately,) chiefly due to adverse seasonal conditions, a large •proportion of cur 1 , farming. consumers has experienced a poor dairy season; but nevertheless the results as set out in the reports to be submitted by the engineer-manager reveal an exceedingly satisfactory position. To meet the increasing demand for additional supply to consumers the Board has been actively engaged in constructing new extensions to the letieuiation system. This year such demands have exceeded previous year’s commitments.

During the year we have increased our capital outlay by 5.9 per cent, malying a total of £205,035, resulting in 10.2 per cent, additional consumers with a, total turnover for the year in all departments, amounting to £05,700 being an increase oi" 11.8 per cent. Considering the question of rising costs, and tlio instability of the labour problem, a. close investigation ol tlie accounts and statistics, details oi which are contained in the engineermanager’s reports, however, indicates that both load and revenue have increased beyond the figures obtaining at the end of the previous year, and further, the percentage of working costs to revenue compares favourably with the average for ali power boards. This I am sure you will agree is a very satisfactory feature of the year’s operations. To all our staff 1 wish personally to express my appreciation of tlieir efforts in contributing to the success achieved during the past year when 1 have had the privilege of occupying the chair. Ju conclusion 1 wish to thank the board members with whom 1 have been associated during the last year, for their consideration and courtesy extended to myself, and lor the very active interest they have always taken in furthering ' the prosperity of the board. ENGINEER-MANAGER’S REPORT The hollowing report was presented for the year ending 31st. -Mlucli, 1959, by Air. J. D. Dicker, engineer-manag-er. Although the past year now under review has’ been subject-to further rising costs, the final figures as tabulated in the accompanying statements and schedules, can bo considered as satisfactory, a lull it is gratifying to note that the progress of the board's activities is being steadily maintained. The turnover in the trading department has increased from £11,539 to £14,660 being an increase of £3,121 for thq year. > The revenue for sale ol electricity amounting to' £47,901 9s Id, is in excess of the; previous year by £3,30< 12s Id. •

The amount from the sale of service lines has increased from £l,2Sc to £1.759 indicating an increase ot £473 for the year. The total tm' nover for the year in all departments is £65,700. The capital expenditure lor the year amounts to £11,438 16s 7d which is in excess of the estimated figure- for tlio year by £1,469, and is partly account-, ed for in iucrcasedi costs over which we have no control, together with additional extensions required during the year, but not included in the estimates. r .llhe total capital expenditure to date over the whole system'is £205.088. The, value of stocks of materials held in Opotiki and Wlmkatane stores as at 31st. March, 1939, totals £19,011 10s Bd. an increase of £4,885 over the totals, for last year. The Wlmkatane Borough Council commenced drawing its whole power requirements through the board s system as from Ist. August 1938. and the increased revenue, and- units sold etc. can be ascertained by a. comparison with columns two and three as set out in the attached schedule oi “Bower Cost Analysis New Construction. —The total route miles of lines erected for the year as follows: — 24.14 miles 11,000 volt lines. .72 miles 400 volt lines. 7.14. miles 400 volt lines on 11,000 volt lines. 17.6 chains of 3-pliase 11,000 volt

I understand: that-Mr Watson, whose property it is suggested to go through, is willing to give- The' piece of land, which would be about half an acre. To build a similar bridge to that which crosses the river about H miles further up near Holmes’ property, together with the approach, would cost about £450.
