CARDENINC CIRCLES A JET-TING AT OPOJUKI The annual meeting of the Opotiki Women’s Institute Gardening Circle was held at the home .of Alls. J. D. Clark. Although the weather was inclement, there was an attendance of twelve members, over which Mrs. J. T. Merry, vice-president, presided. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Airs. Merry, who had so ably carried out the duties of president in the absence of -Mrs. Forbes. A handsome posy, made by Airs. Barrett, was presented to Aliss Bridge, as a token of appreciation of her services during the year. A magnificent lot of flowers was entered for the competitions which were won as follows :—-Most uncommon flower, Airs. Alerry and Aliss Bridge. Three best flowers: Al iss Bridge 1. Airs. Alerry and -Mrs. Burrett (tie) 2. Mrs. Abbot offered her home for the next meeting when the president, and secretary will be-elected tor 1939--10. Thanks to Airs. Clark brought a very pleasant afternoon to a close. AY AIA lA X A-N UK U HOU CIRCLE There was n very large attendance of members at the monthly gardening circle l meeting of the AYainiaua-Xuku-hou Women’s Institute, which was held at the homo of Airs. A. K. Bell, Wnimann. Airs. Jerram \prcsided. Apologies were received from several members who were unable to bo'present. Aliss Stansbury read the minutes of the previous meeting. '.ljJie culture of hydrangeas was well discussed, and the pruning of shrubs was also touchon. Humorous readings on gardening were given by Airs. Jerram, and much enjoyed. The competitions for the afternoon were: Vase of painted foliage, Airs. .Mitchell I. Airs. Burnett 2, Airs. Woo I field 3. Best flower: Alts. Mitchell (pink geranium) 1, Airs. Mot ram 2, Airs. Eagle 3. A memory test competition was worn by Airs. Stevenson and Airs. C. AY.vldc. After a dainty tea had been served by the hostesses, Airs .Cranswick and Aliss Stansbury. a. walk was taken round the garden, which was very neat and trim. A Heartv vote cl thanks was passed to the judge. Airs. AA . Addison, also to the hostesses, and Airs. Bell for her kind hospitality.
