S. Aloody), Crs. F..W.' Bridger, A. G. Stevenson, ¥. J. Short, S. El. Webb, T. G. Johnson and Mr. W. H. Briggs (town clerk). An apology for absence was received from-.(Jr. G. L. Day. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and outward corr< -spo n deuce si pprored. Inward correspondance. The- National Peace Council of Now Zealand wrote asking for the-council’s support of the movement. —The council-decided to support the representations. The New Zealand ’b’erritorial Association wrote acknowledging receipt cf donation and expressing appreciation of the council’s support to the movement. The Auckland Provincial Centennial Council wrote acknowledging receipt of plans etc. of the proposed Opotiki memorial.—Received. The New Zealand Harbour Boards’ l uiou wrote suggesting that the council should join the union.—The council considered that in view of the Inet tlicit only one man was employed at the wharf, no useful purpose would ho gained by joining up. The Waikohu County Council wrote in connection with the state of the main highway between Gisborne and Opotiki and stated that a deputation would wait on the authorities in Wellington and asked for the council’s support-.—On the motion of Cr. Short, seconded by Cr. Eire Board Members.—Air. Briggs stated that it would be necessary to elect the borough Fire Board' members that night, and the Alayor and Cr. Short were re-elected. Health.—Ahv AL J. Fogarty, health inspector for the district, reported that the town still remained free ol: infectious diseases, none being reported for the period. Foreman’s Report The following report was presented by tlie borough foreman, Air. J. Serjeant : Approximately TOO chain of water table*? cleaned. 255 chain ol: drains cleaned and spoil carted away to Ring and Goring Streets. 25 chains of St. John Street scarified aucl metalled. 1U chain of Wellington Street metalled. JO chain of Goring Street metalled. 10 chain of Brabant Street metalled. 10 chain of Letts Avenue metalled. 10 chain of Bridge Street metalled. Approximately 50yds. of river metal list'd patching streets and intersections; also gateways metalled. Portion of King Street loft, by 17ft. scaled two coats. Hoads and intersections kept graded and combed. Highway.—2o chain by Git. in Church Street rolled and given one (■oat No. 1 tar and chips. 10 chain in St. John Street shouldered with grader. Hot holes in various main highways patched with premix. Church and Bridge street highway continually kept graded metal to centre. Water.—Dam sc,cured and intake cleaned. 30 motors repaired, cleaned and started. Fire plugs cleaned and plugs in town area painted. Two blowouts repaired on water main. Fittings installed Hospital Mill. Groyne- extended to protect water main. General. —Turfing ’ complete at Ho sorve. Fence erected; -also tin fence at Reserve. 'frees lopped at monument. Blackberry cut in various streets, 'frees cleaned at plantation at 'I (hompspn’s. Approximately -10 yards of metal carted to dump at yard. Streets and footpaths mowed with harvester mower. Floodgates have been inspected and! cleaned. Cemetery, Wnitangi' Park etc. kept in or*der. One new 9” pipe crossing put in Buchanan Street. Tlie report, was approved.
