OBITUARY
MR. MATTHEW PATTERSON 'due death occurred at tlie Opotiki Hospital on Monday of Air. Matthew Patterson of St : . John Street, Opotiki, in his 59th. year. Air. Patterson was born at sea’ when tlie ship in which his parents, ' Air. and the late Airs. Robert Patterson came to New Zealand was two days off the New Zealand coast. Deceased resided at Birkenhead for a number of years, coming to Opotiki about 30' years ago. Air. Patterson farmed for a, few years at Waioeka, and also lived for a number of years at Cape Runaway, where lie was engaged! at bus'hidling and general work. During his stay iu Opotiki deceased took a very keen, interest in Rugby football, and until recently was a- delegate on the management- committee of the Opc.tiki Rugby Union. Deceased leaves a widow and three sons and four daughters to mourn their loss. The funeral took place at the Opotiki cemetery yesterday afternoon and was./ very largely . attended. Tlie burial service»was conducted by 'the Rev. A. C. Hampton.
