G ATE-CR ASHER CAU GHT « ‘ LON DUN, April lo.—A man, apparently in great pain, was admitted into a London hospital. He explained between his gasps that lie was a garage owner that fie had been run over by a car iu his garage. It was thought that his ribs were fractured. A doctor strapped his ribs. He was put to bed. Later he became violent. A male nurse took charge of him. Screens were placed, rcundi his bed. Inquiries were made in garages all over London, but the name- given by the patient could not be traced. De-tective-Sergeant- Clark was called in. The detective searched the patient's bed. He found an envelope marked “Strictly private and confidential.” it- contained the man’s labour exchange card. The patient, when he saw what had occurred, attacked! the detective. For the card betrayed him as Tom, bogus invalid and hospital gate-crasher. Tom, in the dock! at- Clerkenwell yesterday, was accused of incurring a debt of £7 at- the hospital by false pretences and of assaulting the detective sergeant. Eight former convictions • were mentioned against him, and for the next three months he will board and lodge in another kind of institution.
