TEMPERANCE LESSONS
IN VJffiROA R GILL SCHOOLS NO PROHIBITION TEACHING Ministers in Invercargill are proposing to introduce temperance instruction into the sixth standard of primary schools and in secondary schools. The approval of the Southland .Education. Board for the proposal was sought at the board’s meeting last week by the Rev. G. B. H-unton, representing the jninisters. It was decided that permission be granted for the. instruction in primary schools as provided for in the syllabus which refers to temperance in all matters. It was stated that instruction would, be given in the half-hour periods set aside for Bible instruction and that it would) be given on not more' than six occasions annually. The permission is subject to comfirmation by the headmasters of the various schools. ' N “I can assure tile board that wo have no idea of introducing prohibition propaganda,” said Mr. Huntcn. They, quite realised’ that all ministers were not qualified to teach. Seine of the ministers were declamatory, but men would lie selected who would be well able to teach.
