EASTERN BAY FEDERATION ANNUAL MEETING HELD . The'annual],.meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty; Federation of Women’s Institutes was* held at Whakatane recently. Airs. ftWooin-eld presided and., delegates, were present from most- of the institutes in the federation.' The meeting opened with the Institute Song and Creed and a welcome was extended to visitors and delegates by the president. The reports presented by the voluntary organisers, Alesdames Withy and Wilson, and the annual report and balance sheet presented by the secre-tary-treasurer, Airs. Wilson,, showed that a busy and profitable year had been spent. Airs. Woolfield spoke oi k various institute activities including an education week to 'be' conducted for 'junior members by the Taurangu Federation in conjunction with the W.D.F.U. (Tauranga branch) and they founding of the Rawhiri Home for convalescents at Putaruru. The halfyearly reports given by Vdelegates showed a wide range of interests both social and educational and revealed a slight increase in membership. An appeal was made for standing merit for the C(sr6eiinial Exyliibition, where a large space lias: been allotted to the women’s organisations for a* display of home industries and handicrafts.

A most interesting talk on Fiji was given •‘by Mrs. Sutcliffe,. Whakatane, who displayed many articles both useful and ornamental, and described how largely the natural products are used in the. lives of the Fijiaiys. The Potato Shield for annual competition was worn by the Utara institute with a total of 268 pounds. The competition results were-: Knitted cardigan, _ Mrs. Armstrong 1, Mrs. Guest 2, Mrs. Murphy 3. Bowl of flowers, Mrs, Woolfield 1, Mrs. Mitchell 2, .Mrs. Withy 3. Sultana cake, M*rs. Withy 1 and 3, Mrs. Le Lievre 2. The prizes were presented by Mrs. AVoolfield. A display of handcrafts arranged by Mrs. Stewart was greatly admired Ity visitors. The following are the members of the executive committee: President, Mrs. Woolfield. Committee, Mrs. Berry (Whakatane), Mrs. Brown (Otara), Mrs. Fisher (Opotiki), Mrs. Irishman ~(VVaiotahi), Mrs. Le Lievre (Edgecumbe), Mrs. Matthews (Whakatane), Mrs. McCallion (Otara), Mrs. Kendall (Manawahe), Mrs. Turnbull (Otikiri), Mrs. Wardlaw (Waimana), Mrs. Withy •Matata), Mrs. C. Wvlde (Waimana).

Afternoon tea was served by the hostess institutes. The singing of the National An thorn concluded: the meeting.
