Stock Sale. The monthly stock sale will be held in 'the Opotiki saieyards to-morrow. Particulars are advertised. Football Practice. The City third grade and Old Boys juniors will hold a. practice on the reserve to-morrow night at 7 o’clock. Card Evening. A progressive 500 card evening will be held! by the Rebekah Lodge in the Regent tea-rooms to-niglit (Wednesday). Cold' at Ciisborne. Two more frosts were registered at Gisborne last week, one being of 5.3 degrees. The heaviest frost this season was one of 5.7 degrees on March 24. Shipping. The m.s. Waiotahi and the m.s. Otimai are due. in Opotiki to-morrow. The Otimai is timed to sail on Friday morning and the Waiotahi on Saturday morning. Accident to Foot. A severe cut to his foot was received by Mr. Joe Parkinson, while engaged in chopping wood! on his father’s property. He was brought from the back of tlie farm to his parents’ house and later was admitted to the Opotiki Hospital. Rainfall Comparisons. Annual rainfall returns for the whole of New Zealand were published recently in the New Zealand Gazette and the figures include .some interesting, comparisons. Pahihiroa station, in the Ruatoria district, easily established itself, as the wettest place in the Fast Cbasf area for 1938 with a total of 14Cin.. compared with Gisborne’s 56in. However. at Dawson Falls, iMount Elgmont, the tally for the year was was 232 in., and at Milford Sound there was an aggregate of 230 pi.,' this figure being 18in. below normal lor that station. Neither Dawson Tails nor Milford Sound produced the 'greatest- fall for a: 24-liour period. Tokomaru -Bay’s 12.10 in. on February 18 was amongst the highest, but Wnihi and Putorino both returnee; readings of 16.50 in. on different dates. Otago produced the driest climate. Patearoa', 89 miles northwest. of Dunedin, measured only 15in. for the whole year.
