METHYLATED SPIRITS
NOT INTOXICATING LIQUOR MAGISTRATE’S DECISION SYDNEY, April 4.—Messrs. E. A. Hickey and \Y. Hi. Mclntosh, justices of the peace, decided in the A.ass Police court to-day-t-hait'.methylated spirits is not. intoxicating liquor, within tile meaning of the Liquor Act. Albert Crozier, aged 45. had been charged with having failed to comply with the. conditions of a recognisance, by which he had undertaken to retrain from intoxicating liquor. Ho pleaded not guilty. Detective-Constable Oatt said he hud found CCozier drinking methylated spirits ; at the Yass showground. The magistrates said that they were not sure that methylated spirits was intoxicating liquor under the* Liquor Act of 1912, because methylated spirits could be purchased at a store, which did not require a license to sell intoxicating liquor. Sergeant Stanton submitted that liquor, as, dclined in section 3 of the Liquor Act, was a spirituous fluid capable of producing intoxication. The bench found that the charge was not proved. and dischargee Crozier. '
