Because births exceeded deaths there was an increase of 424,394 in the population, bringing the total to 44,056,000. Signor Mussolini hopes for a population of 60,000,000 by 1060. Before the war Italy’s birth rate was well over '3O per 1000. Last year it was only 23.6. \
