HAZARD FOR BOMBERS LONDON, Jan.. 2.—“ Electric eye” shells automatically exploded by reflected light from aeroplanes at- which they f are aimed may he a new terror for bombers. A Swedish firm, Telefonaktiebclaget L.Mt Ericsson, of Stockholm, have beeir assigned the patent to manufacture them. It' is claimed that the shells, fired without fuses, will burst a.s soon as they are .within effective distance c.f their targets. This is the secret of an “electric eye”' shell. It will carry a cartridge of magnesium that will .burn fiercely in the nose and a photo-electric cell connected to an explosive charge ior detonating the shell. Light from the burning magnesium will, it is claimed, he l reflected off the body of the target plane, caught by the photo-electric cell, and generated into electric current to explode the shell/
