OPOTIKI ANNUAL MEETING SATISFACTORY REPORTS The annual meeting of thq Opotiki B’asket.ball Association was held on Thursday last in the school. The election of officers resulted; as follows: — Patroness; Airs. A. G. Hultquist (re-elected). President, Airs. Potts (provisionally). A r ice-presklents, Alesdames do Alontalk, Hampton, Seville and Bridget-. Secretaries, Misses K. Alulhern and J. Du Pontct. Treasurer, Aliss K. Jephson. Aljanagement Committee, Airs. Potts, Aliss Cooper, Convent Sisters, Sister Kirkwood and one captain from each senior club. Opening day was fixed for the 29th. Alay, to take, the form of a knockout tournament and afternoon tea to be served. The treasurer’s report showed a substantial credit balance and was approved. ANNUAL REPORT The secretaries reported as follows: The 193 S basketball season commenced on the '3oth. April with a knock-out tournament between the Opotiki teams; at. the conclusion of which afternoon teat was served to all present. From then on competition matches Were carried out regularly until early .in August, when the measles epidemic somewhat disorganised the games, hut eventually all the competition matches were played. The winners of the senior competition were High School A with ConventOld Girls a very close runner-up. In this section seven teams registered at the commencement and two mere joined in at the start of the second round. The Convent Juniors once again retained the Junior Cup,. Four junior teams registered but early in the season one withdrew. Our Association entertained teams from AA’hakatane and AVaimana on the 29th. July. All club matches were cancelled on that date and a knockout tournament lxeldl. Old Girls “A” were the winners, with High School A and Te Hui runners-up. A representative match was arranged between members of the visiting teams and Opotiki representatives. The visiting team defeated Opotiki in this match. Afternoon tea was provided by the Opotiki teams. During the season several of our club teams visited outside teams. Convent Seniors visited AVaimana, Kin. Too- .V visited Omaio>, and Old Girls A went to Gisborne.

The Opotiki representative team attended the annual tournament in Rotorua, and although defeated;, wo led that the experience that they gained in that tournament will greatly benefit our Association. On the 27tli. July the Association held a dance in the Lyric Hall to! augment- the funds. This was a success and the Association benefitted financially. Another dance was held in the AVoodlands Hall on the 29th. March, which was a great success and at which a cake: that- was raffled was drawn. The proceeds from this dance placed) the Association on a firm financial footing. AA'a have to thank our referees lor tlieir loyal support and co-operation. AYe realise that in most cases they are giving up their only free afternoon in the week and we greatly appreciate their kindness, for without our referees the Association coulcl not function. Aliss C'laridge, who for some years past lias been ail active committee member and a referee, lias left, the district and the Association Committee felt that a presentation should be made, and on behalf of the Association. a presentation was made by our president, Airs. Dicker. For their kind assistance at our Woodlands dance we have to thank Air. and! Mrs. S. Alaxwell, and Air. J. Barbour and Air. T. Hickey, who so ably carried out the duties of M.C. The committee decided to express tlieir thanks to Airs. Alaxwell by presenting her with some small gift. AYc have also to thank our retiring president, Airs. Dicker, our vicepresidents and management committea and treasurer and all who in any way assisted us throughout the past season. In conclusion we would like to extend to t-lie incoming office bearers of the association, our best wishes for a very, pleasant and successful year.
