FLOWER SHOW

HEiLD BY SUNSHINE LEAGUE IMPRO YEMENI’ IN., ENTRIES HIGH QUALITY OF EXHIBITS The Opotiki Hospital Sunshine League held their annual autumn {lower show on Thursday last in the Lyric Hall. The weather was very unsettled during the day. and this somewhat affected the attendance. As most flowers were picked the previous night the rain had little effect on the the entries, which were . more numerous than last years and cf very, fine quality, reflected great credit on the exhibitors, who had obviously given their flowers the best of attention. As usual the centre of interest was the chrysanthemum exhibits and several really outstanding blooms were exhibited. The champion bloom was again shown by Miss Linda Reece, this being a huge yellow, of perfect form and colouring. Although late in the season lor dahlias to show to advantage, the entries iu this class were exceptionally good for late April but. the colouring was changeable, due to the end of the season. In the cut flower section, the quality O'f they zinnias was very fine, ivliile .many other, outstanding flowers were shown, including carnations and hydrangeas of great beauty. The childtren’s section attracted a good deal of attention, the collection of berries being very numerous. An outstanding display was made by the members of the Opotiki Horticultural Society and this attracted more than passing interest throughout the afternoon. Every infaginable use to which flowers could be put was demonstrated. The display was aptly described by a placard which announced : “From the cradle to the grave, Say it with flowers.” A great deal of work had) been put in by-individual members and tlie whole display, reflected the greatest credit on those responsible for this exhibit. In the unavoidable absence of the Mayor through illness, the show was officially opened by the chairman cf the Opotiki Hospital Board, Mr. S. Maxwell, who heartily congratulated the Sunshine League for putting on such a good show and for the aim and object of the League’s efforts. Mt.
