Shipping. The v.v. Waiotalii arrived at the Opotikji wharf to-day and will leave for Auckland on Friday. She will leave Auckland again on Tuesday night. Summer Time Entfs. The last Sunday in April will bring with it the end!’of summer time for the year, when clocks will be put back 30 minutes. Summer time commenced on September 25 last. Temperatures. Temperatures at 9 o’clock yesterday morning were: Auckland (30 degrees, Taiuanga 63, Opotiki and Gisborne 59, East Cape' 64, Napier 67, and Wellington 54. Collision on Corner. A Collision occurred during the week-end, at the intersection of Ford and Nelson Streets, between, two mot-or-cars. Damage was dene to the front of both vehicles but the occupants were unharmed. Large Eel Caught. An eel weighing '32lb. was captured in the Alotu River near the Alotu township last week. Although only 4ft. (jin. long, it! was over 20in. round. This is the largest specimen that has been caught in the river in the memory of present residents in the township. Native Development. Speaking in Cape Dunaway recently Sir Apiraua Ngata said that he was afraid Maori field officers in the native lands development schemes were being eliminated gradually. Matav.ai Dental Clinic. “Please convey to the Alatawai folk my personal congratulations on their fine effort: to raise one-third of the cost of the clinic, and give them iny kind regards.” writes the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Eraser, in a letter to' the Bay of Plenty member, Mr. A. G. Hultquist. in which he announces that a grant has been approved for the establishment of a school dental clinic at Matawai. The Education Department will contribute twothird.s -of the cost of the clinic, and the balance of the outlay will be found! by the clinic committee, of which Mr. Jas. K. Briant is lion, secretary.

Shining Cuckoos. Quito .a number of shining cuckoos have been noticed in the borough the last few days, the birds appearing to prefer gardens, where they can he seen looking for foodi. The birds are very tame and can be approached quite closely. Little Boy Injured. A nasty cut on the head -was received by Merryn Kent, aged five, son of Mr. G. Kent, Waiockn Road, on Sunday. The little hoy was riding his tricycle and ' playing with another boy who was on another tricycle, when they collided. Me ivy n was thrown, on to a brick path edging and received a deep cut on liis forehead. His brother Frank, a few years older ’phoned for a doctor and did bis best to step the bleeding. It was found necessary to insert three switches in the. wound!.

Paper Ceases Publication. In addition to the Bay of Plenty Press, AYhaka.tanc, which ceased publication on February 14, another paper on the East Coast has how published its last issue. In suspending publication, the proprietors of the East Coast Press, Tokomarti Bay, announce that the decision was rCabhed only after careful consideration of all aspects of the newspaper business and conditions as they are to-day. The passing of control in business on the Coast to Gisborne, and the difficulty of securing advertising, and circulation revenue, have made the row of the Press a hard one. IF ere is a further difficulty in the credit facilities which, according to the valedictory announcement. a large number of nominal subscribers have demanded. It is now a few days short of 20 years since the Press was established as a weekly journal catering for Coast interests, and it looks back upon a proud record of service within its sphere.
