OBITUARY
Mi R. J. S. ROE The death occurred in the Cock Hospital, Gisborne, last nighty of Air. Jack (Sam) Roe. at the age of 41 years. Deceased had been an inmate of the Cook Hospital for several months, suffering from a very rare complaint.
• Deceased, who was the third son of Air. Matthew Roe. of Opotiki, was born at Ormond in 1898. and in- 1912 came to Opotiki with his parents. After a short stay in this district he returned to Poverty Bay and worked on numerous ,sheep stations for a number of years. In later years he was employed on a stud sheep farm on the Gisborne flats, and on the death of his employer, took over the managership of the farm. Deceased is survived by his wife and three young children ; five brothers, Messrs. AY. B. Roe. Hastings. 10. .10. Roe, Taruheru, Gisborne, F.' H. Roe, Opotiki. J. T, Roe, Opotiki, C. G. Roe, Aiickland; and three sisters, Airs. J. Grbeu, Gisborne. Airs. J. Hanna, Gisborne and MYs. R. Hirst, Auckland. PIONEER PUBLICAN AIR. (ON N FIONA N Well known in the Ormond district, in which be had resided for well over 50 years. Mr Con Noonan died last week-end in the- Cook Hospital, aged 84. years. 9 lie late Air. Neenan was born in County Cork. Ireland, and came to New Zealand as a young man. He was employedi on the Barker property at Ormend lor 19 years and later became licensee of the Ormond Hotel. He remained in the hotel business for 20 years, becoming well known in the trade. After relinquishing his license Air. Neenan took up land at Ormond and tanned there' for several years. Fight years ago the deceased lost his sight-, but, despite this affliction, remained very bright and cheerful. He luid been in failing health for a lew years and. prior to his death alter seven weeks ill hospital, he hadl frequently been a patient there. Alir. Neenan was a member of the Druids Lodge and was also a prominent and active member of the Ormond Sports Club. The deceased married Aiiss Ellen Donovan. AYanganui, who died 32 years ago. He is survived by four daughters. Airs. F. AI. Cleary. Gisborne. Airs. Mc-Gopigal. Te Aroint, Aiiss A. Neenan. Auckland, and Aiiss T. Neenan, Ormond, and two sens, Alessrs. i). and AY. Neenan. Gisborne and. Ormond respectively.
