ROAD EXPERIMENT ' LANCASHIRE’S BILL LONDON. Nov. j 24.—“ Courtesy cops” are likely to be widely extended next Year. Tin.* experiment started by the Home Office and .Ministry ot .transport to test the theory that road users could lie effectively educated to be--have with sense and consideration instead of being bullied' by the rigid enforcement of the law. has proved such a great success at the end ot its first six months that the scheme can hardlv fail to he more widely adopted. Since April of this year a total of 775 specially trained patrols have been operating in seven, selected areas. Lancashire, Cheshire, Essex, .Manchester. Liverpool. Salford and London. Only Lancashire, so Jar. has submitted a formal report on the first six months’ working, showing a reduction of no less than 46 per cent, in accidents involving death or injury.
