No inward or outward passengers were carried by to-day’s plane at Opotiki. On Friday Miss X. Torrens arrived from Auckland and Mr. T. Pile left here for Gisborne. MISS FERGUSON FAREWELLED *s Miss M. A.' Ferguson, who lias been in business- in Opotiki for many years, was fa-rewelled recently in the Parish Hall. The hall had been artistically decorated with flowers by members of the Anzac Committee and friends. The large attendance showed the esteem in which the guest of tfie evening was held: During cor residence in Opotiki Miss Ferguson lias made many friends and she was a very valuable helper- and member /H of the Anzac committee, and the news of her impending departure was received with regret. j Mt. Baigent, on behalf of the It.S. A. committee and friends, .presented Alls;- Ferguson with a cheque, and referred! to the valuable assistance uiwa.v.s given by Miss Ferguson anu expressed regret at the departure. Little Miss Janet Bunkall also presented Miss Ferguson with a bouquet. .Later in the evening Miss Janet Bunkall was presented with an Easier egg. During the course of the evening songs and other items were rendered bv the following: M!rs. Olein Black, Mrs. Duff. Airs. J. Shaw. Airs. Kidd, Air. Rowland, Air.. Stan Pearce, Air. Stevenson and Air. Jack Armstrong. Tb e items were well rendered and helped to make a very pleasant evening. A SURPRISE PARTY A surprise party was tendered oil Fridav afternoon by the Woodlands school-children to Aliss I>. .Norrie. one of the teachers, who is to be married shortly. '1 here was a. large gathering .of parents and friends. A very enjoyable concert was given by the schovd-cliildren. after which Mr. S. Alaxweli, chairman of the Woodlands School Committee-, expressed regret at losing such a. popular teacher audi wished Aliss Norrie every good wish*for her future happiness. Aliss Philiipa I etch then came forward and presented Aliss Norrie with a beautiful bouquet, and Hi a: no Cave?. on behalf of the Woodlands people, handed Aliss Xorrie a . green dish with silver stand. Aliss .Xorric suitably replied, and all joined around the guest of honour and sang “For She’s A Jolly Good I*ol A verv dainty afternoon tea was served by the ladies, the tables being prettily decorated with marigolds and mickiemas daisies.
