OPENING OF SEASON COURSE IN SPLENDID- ORDER COMPETITION RESULTS The golf season was opened in Opotiki on Saturday afternoon, the ceremony being performed' by the president, Mr. E. J. Short. The presidentstated that the greens and fairways were the best, they had been at an opening of the season, this notwithstanding the prolonged:' spell of dry weather. Me especially thanked those willing workers who had given agreat- deal of time in the preparation of the tees, and in the installation of the water supply and other improvements to the club-house. An increased membership was looked forward to and all prospects pointed towards Hie club having a very successful season. The ladies’ captain, Airs. G. N.. Vanstone, then drove off the lirst bid l and the season was declared open amid applause. A competition for a- set- ol golf clubs was won by Aliss Joyce Downey of To Awamntu, formerly a- member of the ladies’ committee of the Opotiki Club. Mixed Foursome. A mixed foursome was played over nine holes, the best scores being : Alliss Gillespie and L. Davies .... 40. Airs. Carter and -CL Thompson ... 46 Miss Young and P. Fox 47.
