Lt has become known that the pro-duct-ion jot oil from the Anglo-Ameri-can Cbnipany’s experimental well at Dalkeith, Midlothian, is now approaching 1000 dollars a day. In consequence it is expected that a number of companies will apply for licenses to prospect the Midlothian ridge. The fijrst “strike’ ’occurred on June 27, and 1 the oil comes from oil sands at 1730 to 1760 feet below the surface. Analysis has established! it to be of .'good quality and rather heavy. The first substantial consignment of oil has been transported from Dalkeith to P's sex for refining. Although it is yet early to set commercial values on the developments, representatives of companies interested have been conducting considerable, research in the,, locality. Some of these have made-inquiries in Filestore Companies reported to be interested besides the Anglo-American Oil Company, Limited, include the Gulf Exploration Company, Limited, of London. which is simultaneously boring at Broughton. , near Stokesley, North .Yorkshire, and the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, Limited, which was the first, to prospect in the Dalkeith district. The Anglo-Iranian Company is reported to own prospecting rights tor a considerable stretch of land, and the Anglo-American Company is understood to be making a widcrN'piS.earch on both sides of the Firth of Forth By"'" v 'the terms of the Petroleum Production Bill the property in petroleum is vested in the Crown, and licenses for prospecting are granted through the Beard of Trade.
