WORKS REPORT ■The following works report was presented at the monthly meeting af the Opotiki Borough Council on Tuesday night:— * Alain Highway.—The placing of rock in. Church Street and intersection Bridge Street completed Depressions etc. formed up in readiness for Public Works machine. Church Street and intersection Bridge Street has been continually watered, relied etc. to consolidate. 70 feet of 9 inch pipes laid across Church and Bridge Street intersection. The other part of Bridge Street toward Nelson Street i.s being proceeded with. Water. —Dam inspected and water below spillway. A new screen is required to floating intake and a temporary one has been fitted in the meantime. All meters have been read. Fire plugs cleaned. Dam scoured out and intake cleaned. Three blow-outs repaired Otara Road. Various stopcocks repaired. New surface water gully built in Church Street. F ootpaths.—A portion of footpath in Olutrch Street 33 yds. x 4 yds. excavated andi filled with rock, sealed two coats complete. Various footpaths in borough cleaned free of overhanging weeds etc. and footpaths mown. Footpaths patched with preinix. General.—Fence completed at new cemetery, also drain on north-east side cleaned and battered. Military cemetery cleaned free of weeds and same burnt. G'emptery. Waitangi Park, etc., mowed and cleaned. Grader brake an axle while working on Bridge Street. A new one has been fitted. Streets and intersections have been graded. Approximately 80 yards of river metal carted and roads patched. Intersections patched with preinix, and intersections and concrete paths swept four times. Battery Charger.—lt is recommended that a battery charger be obtained to save trouble and expense of getting the service done outside.
