Card Evening. The Otara Hail Committee will hold a card evening in the Wattle tearooms on Monday evening. Gisborne Cold Weather. Another frost of 2.3 degrees was registered at the Gisborne aerodrome meteorological station on Wednesday morning. Farmers’ Union Meeting. The annual meeting of the Opotiki Branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union will be held in the secretary’s office to-morrow morning, commencing at ll o’clock. Power Cut-off. The Public Works Department’s supply of power will be cut off the whole of the Bay of Plenty Power Board’s area on Sunday next, between the hours of noon and 4 p.m. Temperatures. Temperatures at various centres in the North Island yesterday morning at 9 o’clock were: Auckland and Opotiki 65 degrees, Tauranga 67, East Cape 62, Gisborne 60, Napier 63, and Wellington 58. Opotiki Branch Labour Party. The Opotiki Branch of the N.Z. Labour Party will hold the annual meeting in the bandroom to-night-, at 8 o’clock. Woodlands Cricket Team. The Woodlands cricket- team to play City at the week-end will be selected from the following:—1). Clark, Davies, Fox, Pipe, D. Beattie, Jones, J. Shove. McGregor, McLaughlin, Pilkington. Perfect, Uaigent. St. Patrick’s Day Dance. The annual dance held on St. Patrick’s Day will take place in the Lyric Hall to-night. Novelties will be included in the programme and items will be presented by t-lie Convent pupils. Annual Camp. Twenty Opotiki members of the Hauraki Regiment will be going to the annual camp at- Papakura> where they will undergo an interesting week of advanced training. The Opotiki men will leave here to-morrow morning. Fortnightly Pig Sale. The fortnightly -pig sale will be held in the Opotiki salcyards on Monday next. In addition to the live stock, 1400 feet of timber will he offered. Football Club Meeting. The annual meeting of the Woodlands 3rd. Grade Football Chib will take place in the Woodlands Hall-on Monday night. Harvest services. Special harvest- thanksgiving services will be held in St. John’s and St. Stephen's Churches oil Sunday next and also in the Kutarere l Methodist Church. Particulars of the services and sale of produce arc advertised. Shipping Delayed. Owing to the lack of water on the Opotiki bar, shipping to Opotiki has been delayed and two boats are now waiting, for a favourable opportunity to enter the harbour. The rivers at Opotiki are still at a low level as a result of the continued dry weather and a good fresh is badilv needed to improve the harbour entrance. Four Dogs Shot. Several dogs were observed worrying a number of lambs on Mr. F. Wingate’s property, Otara. The dogs were traced and the police informed of the occurrence. Four dogs were later shot. When the dogs were first observed attacking the lambs, which were woolly, they had) not done any serious damage, the lambs being protected by a good coating of wool. However the dogs had pulled out a great quantity of wool, which was strewn in all directions. This is the second occasion during the season that Mr. Wingate’s sheep have been at tacked by dogs. During the la lulling season considerable damage was done by dogs, a number of lambs and ewes being lost.
