WEDDING
HITCHENER—KING A very pretty wedding was quietly solemnised at St. James’ Church, Tokomaru Bay, on Saturday afternoon when llilileen, eldest daughter of Air. and Ai'rs. J. King, Three- Bridges, was married to Edward Hitchener, of Omaio. The Bc-v. Father Shearin officiated at the ceremony. The bride, who entered the church on tiie arm of Air. H. Gann, presented a charming picture in a- gown of ivory shimmer satin, which foil in graceful folds to the ankles. The bodice- was fashioned in a cowl effect, and large puffed sleeves and a long wide sash finished the frock to advantage. The beautiful tulle veil, heavily embroidered and scalloped at the edges, was Held in place by a silver halo, and a double string of pearls and satin shoes completed the ensemble. She carried a shower bouquet of cream asters and lilies.
Assisting the- bride were two bridesmaids, Alis.ses -Mary Nelson and Norma King, who were frooked alike in shell pink cloqne cut on classical lines and falling to the ankles. Their Peter Pan collars were finished at the necklines with tiny black velvet bows, and sashes of black velvet ribbon were tied at the waist and fell to the hemline. They wore picture hats of black straw tilted to reveal a duster of pink georgette flowers. Their bouquets* consisted of asters in delicate shades of pink and mauve, interspersed with phlox and asparagus fern. Attending the bridesgroom were Mr. AA'aiiie Dickson as best man and Mr. E. King as groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at the To Puia Hotel, where the bride had been a member of the staff for the past two years. Mrs. J. King received her daughter’s guests, wearing a smart suit of navy and white striped maiatasse and a navy hat to match. A beautiful wedding cake held pride of place on the table, and was made by the bride’s mother and iced by Airs. Lawrence. Tolaga Bay. The usual toasts were honoured and a very enjoyable time was spent. A number ol line wedding presents were on view and many congratulatory telegrams were received.
Later in the day the happy couple travelled .south in their car, the bride wearing a smart .suit of can de nil and navy needle-run Hat crepe and relieved with a cherry belt, hat, shoes and handbag. They will make their future home at Omaio. Bay of Plenty.
