WHAKATANE AUTUMN CATTLE . ' ' FAIR Messrs. Dalgety’and Co. Ltd., Opotiki, report having held tlieir annual, autumn cattle fair at Whakatane aim Thursday, 9th. March. The full advertised numbers of cattle came forward, our entry comprising 1015 station bred cattle. There, was a small representative attendance of buyers including Waikato representation. The offering submitted was a very much higher standard and quality than that subinitted during the last few,years although the cattle were younger, there being an absence of growing bullocks. Competition was keen with restricted limits as compared with corresponding fixture last year. 24-yea r steers carrying condition were also subject to keen competition. All other. classes, especially 18-mcnth steers and the lower conditioned cattle were very dull and sold with very frequent passings and in a number of cases lots failed to draw a bid. Out of 1015entered the total sales numbered 3CO head. Kirk, 14 fat and forward! cows, £4, and 14 at £3 16s ; account H. N. J. Tipping, 16 24-year B. A. sters, £7, 18 at £6 12s and 26 at£6 11s 9cl; account M. C. Ryan, 13-24-year P.A. steers £6 18s, 16 24-year Hereford steers £6. Quotations: Fat cows £4 10s to £55s ; light and unfinished, £3 to £3 ,17s ; 24-year P.A. steers, £6 to £7; small, £5 to £5 10s ; 24-vear Hereford steers, £5 10s; to £6 11s 9d; 18-month P.A. sters, £3 15s to £4 5s ; 18-month Hereford sterS, £3 10s to £4; empty Hereford and P.A. cows, low condition, £2 t-o £2 15s : inferior sorts £1 13s to £1 15s; 24-year Hereford heifers, £3 10s‘to £4; 24-year P.A. heifers, £3 los to £4 ss.
