CONSIGNMENT NOTES
REMOVAL OF SHEET LIABILITY OF OWNER Some doubt, lias arisen in the minds of some East Coast farmers regarding the provisions of the Stock Act, recently amended to require the issue of consignmenti notes for the transport of sheep. Farmers realise that when tney send their sheep by a carrier or drover tlie person in charge of the sheep must carry a consignment note showing the particulars of the sheep, where they are being conveyed to and particulars of the vehicle conveying them, aiidi when carted the note must lie given in duplicate. It is when the owner or somebody regularly employed by the owner has charge of the sheep that there is a misunderstanding. The matter \vas referred to Mr. F. R. Ron Id, Gisborne inspector of stock, who stated recently that when an. owner or a servant of the owner moves stock from one of the owner’s farms to another of hi.s properties over a distance of more than 12 miles, a, consignment note must lie carried, even though it might mean, the owner making out a consignment note to/ himself. W hen the owner or his employee is taking stock for a distance of less than 12 miles lrom (tne of his farms to another there is no need for a consignment note. It will he seen from the above that Opotiki sheeplarmers and dairy farmci.s with one or more sheep or might lind it necessary to move sheep more than 12 miles will require to have a supply of the special consignment forms. Arrangements can ho made to secure these from the local stock inspector.
