“COUNCIL VERY LAX”
ROADSIDE GRAZING COUNCILLOR’S STATEMENT “The council is vo'ry lax with stock grazing on the roadside and the time lias arrived when more drastic steps should be taken,” said Cr. J. E. Benson at a meeting ef the Cook Cutility Council. This statement was made when a letter was lead from 13 residents of Riverside road protesting to the council about continuous grazing on the roadside and asking the council to take steps to have the position remedied. Cr. Benson urged that summonses should he issued against offenders. The chairman, Cr. W. G. Shcrratt, replied that the council could only summons a man if he had been fined twice for allowing his stock to wander. The- county clerk, 51 r. F. T. Robinson, said that the council had given instructions to the rangers to summoils alter a man had been fined - twice. He believed that the council’s present staff was doing its job. No further action was taken. The county ranger, Mr. E. A. Cameron, reported having seized 1489 jgg bead of stock for impounding during the month ended February 11.
