FITNESS WEEK CAMPAIGN
I' U KTIIEK All KAN (> EMENT 8 GIANT PROCESSION BIG SPORTS MEETING A meeting of the .Physical Fitness Committee was held last evening to make final arrangements for “fitness week’’ which will commence next Sunday. IS)th. February, with the holding et special ■Cliiurch services at which youth movements and recreational organisations’ representatives will be present. The campaign will he officially opened by Mr. A. G. Hultquist M.P. on Wednesday afternoon when a display by the school children and sports organised by the Athletic; Club will take place, commencing at 1.30 p.in. sharp. It was decided that all sports bodies be asked to place their facilities free of charge at the. disposal of the public for “fitness week’’. It was decided that Wednesday's procession consist of school children only and that a full programme of the week’s events he published in the Opotiki News next Monday. The public is requested to keep this programme for reference. The order of the procession was arranged as to!lows :—Column of Territorials, combined orchestras, Fire Brigade. Plunket Society Float, Ladies’ Physical Culture Flint, Women’s Institute Float. Girl Guides. Athletic Club Float, Boxing Club Float, Surf Club float. Yachting Club float, Rowing. Football. Cricket and Hunt Glut). The procession will he interspersed with Territorials marching. Any further clubs or organisations are asked to notify the secretary or Mr. A. G. Stevenson before Tuesday. The sports meeting on Wednesday afternoon will he open to< the public toi take part and will include events such as inter-house relays (consisting of teams of lour men or mixed teams;, sack races, egg and spoon races, three-legged races, girls’ hall games, cock-fighting. novelty hike races and the i;aee lor the greasy pig. As will he seen from the above the Athletic Chili is endeavouring to introduce as much humour as possible into the programme. hi addition the: committee is trying to arrange a troupe of nigger minstrels and singers to. fill in iiiiv ditil moments which might occur owing to iinforsecn circumstances. It was decided to ask the Women’s Institute to try and arrange refreshment stalls on the ground lor Wednesday and Saturday. All teams intending to enter for the inter-house relays are asked to notify the secretary, Mr. O. Moiris, or Mr. he Pine before Tuesday night.
