THE OPOTIKI SHEEP FAIR DA LG FT A' AND CO.’S REPORT Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd. report having held, their autumn sheep fair at the Opotiki saleyards on AAYdnesday the Ist. instant. An exceptionally large yarding of all classes of sheep came forward and for ewes an exceptionally good sale resulted although wether buyers maintained rigid limits throughout the sale. Competition was very good there being a record number of buyer- from outside districts, including the Waikato and T,e Puke. Stiit‘oll ewes up to .5 years were in very keen demand and especially these sheep from off the high country, Mr. A. J. Alacrae topping the market with a line of 27.4 5-year ewes at Ids !>d. Other lines account- Air. Getlert, AYairata. made 15s 9d, whilst Motu sheep ranged from 14s to 15s dd. 'The top price of the day tor 2-th ewes account Alcssrs. Stanshury Bros.. Tirohanga. Other lines mad'- from IPs to CL Is. and smaller ewes and late shorn up to 15s. Two-tooth wethers in good condition account Air. B. Alortenxen made 12- 9d and a lino account AIT. Godlert made 14s lid. Lambs were, yarded in considerable numbers hut the quality of the offering was poor and consisted chiefly of small cull lambs suitable for dairy farmers. Prices realised were:
2-th wethers to Ids Del ; others. I.ls t<> Ids; -l-tli wethers, 13s to 14s lid; ♦5-th wethers, account- Hallam Bros., Ids lid for a line- of 375). Fwcs. 2 t-h Romney, to 22s (id; others, Ids to £' 1 Is; f and 6-tli ewes, 18s to £1 ; 5-year-old ewes up to Ids Del ; others, 11s to 14s; d-year-old caves, for a lino from Mot-u, 15s Id. Lambs: mixed sex Southdown. Ss del to 9s del; Romney mixed sex lambs, to Ids del ; smaller lambs. 7s to 8s del; cull lambs, 3s del to ss. A considerable number of rams were yarded, the top price of the day being (it guineas for a fine type of Romney ram account Alessrs. St-ansbury f.fros. Otlrer rams from the same vendors made from 31 gain eas to 4 : | guineas. Messrs. Black Bros, of Paengaroa yarded a eonsielerahlo numher of rams which sold exceptionally well some of them going up to 41 guineas; others, 31 guineas; and four rams account Edwards Estate* were passed in at 4 guineas. We report having had a very good sale with prices well in excess of expectations.
