FITNESS WEEK

PROGRAMME DISCUSSED EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE - * FORMED Arrangements for “Fitness Week” which will be field from 18th. toi 25th. February were discussed at a meeting representative of various sports bodies and other organisations, in the Borough Chambers last night. The following executive committee was formed to deal with suggestions put forward and to carry out arrangements : •Chairman, Mr. F. J. Short. Secretary, Mr. G. W. Button. Asst.-Secretary, Mr. L. Davies. Committee, Mrs. R. A". O’Sullivan. Mr. A. S. de Montalk and one repiesentative of each sports body, with power to add to the number. Other orgahisations which would he asked to assist weru mentioned.

The meeting was of the opinion thatthe activities should be spread over three days during the week, one week-day and Saturday and Sunday.. The arrangements for Sunday were left in the hands of the ministers of the churches who were represented. Mr. Davies mentioned that a movement was on foot to form a primary schools’ athletic association and it might he possible to arrange the first meeting during that week. * 'Various suggestions for the opening day were put forward as recommendations for the committee and it is probable that the programme will consist of athletic events, a programme by the Hunt Club, swimming events, and a yachting race, preceded by a procession through the town. It was also suggested l that various clubs he asked to arrange floats,, including humorous floats, to take part in the procession. It was decided ta ask Mr. Bark inson. to install his public address system ou the grounds. Mr. Stevenson suggested the opening of a. subscription list.hv the Mayor to cover expenses. A sub-committee consisting of the chairman, secretary, Messrs. Brown. Morris, do Montalk, Davies and .Mrs. O’Sullivan was appointed to draw up a programme and present it to the committee next Thursday night.
