Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Denham and Mr. and 1 Mrs. Knowles and their daughter, cat Gisborne, were visitors to Opotiki during the week-end. in the course of a caravan tour to Auckland. ******* Miss F. Jordan and Miss W. Pilson, who arrived in New Zealand from England in October, are now making a long horseback trip from Katikati to ■Wellington via Opotild. The two riders left Opotild yesterday for Gisborne via the old Alotu highway. ******* Mr. and Mrs. F. Reece and family returned to their home at Tailiape today after spending a holiday in Opotiki. ******* Mr. and Mrs. E. Macldren and family who have been spending a holiday in Opotild as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Maddren have returned to their home in EJlcrslie, Auckland. ******* Mts. T. Benner has returned to To Puke after a visit to Opotild as the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Evershed. DANCiE AT WOODLANDS
Woodlands Hall was the scene of a very successful dance on Saturday night when members of the Opotild Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club entertained members of the visiting teams. There was an . exceptionally large attendance and dancing space was taxed to the utmost. A popular programme of music was supplied by Roy Parkes and liis Rhythm Boys, with a popular extra by Mr. R. S. Smith. Mr. J. Shaw capably: carried out the duties of M.O. Winners of t'he novelty dances were Mrs. Foster and partner and Miss K. Hennessy and partner. A dainty supper was served and during an interval, Mr. G. S. Moody, donor of the Moody Banner, presented the banner to the successful Gisborne team. Mr. Moody extended his congratulations to the members of the team and gave a word of encouragement to those members of
the teams which had also', though net successful, made the meeting such a success and provided such keen competition. Mr. Clayton, .manager oi the Gisborne team, accepted the banner and expressed the gratitude of the team for the hospitality extended to them and for the fine spirit of friend* ly rivalry which had been shown them by the members of the other teams competing. His remarks were greeted by the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows”. Dancing was resumed until the early hours.
