“THE PERFECT SPECIMEN” Errol Flynn, that handsome young Irish actor who leaped to fame overnight in “Captain Blood” a couple of years ago and) then carried on with “The Charge of the Light Brigade,” “Green Light’’ and “The Prince and the Pauper,” comes to tlie De Luxe Theatre to-night in a. modern comedydrama called “The Perfect Specimen.” The story deals with an eccentric old lady possessed of many millions who has an ambition to see her grandson raised as an altogether perfect young man,' and who for that reason supplies him with an abundance of'tutdirs but keeps, him confined to the limits of the. family’s vast estate.
A young village girl Blondell —manages to break into the virtual prison and) meet the young man., She succeeds in getting him outside of his bounds, and be begins to understand and loive the world without. That gives you a general idea of the possibilities of the story. It was written by Samuel Hopkins Adams, who authored “It Happened Due Night,” and was adapted into screen form by the quartet of Norman Reilly Raines, Lawrence Riley, Brewster Morse and Fritz Falkenstein. Michael Curtiz was the director. Mike is the same man who guided Flynn through “Captain Blood” and “The Charge of the Light Brigade.” Others in the cast include May Robson, Hugh Herbert, Edward Everett Horton, Allen Jenkins, Beverly Roberts, Dicki For an and Dennie Moore.
This is Errol Flynn’s first essay at out-and-out. comedy, and he is said to be excellent. “HOLLYWOOD ROUNDUP” “Hollywood Roundup” starring Buck Jones under the Columbia banner is an unusual Western drama in that it is an interesting, thrilling story of Hollywood and a Hollywood cow-boy actor. Coming to-night to the De Luxe Theatre, it gives Buck and his almost equally noted horse, Silver, refreshingly new opportunities to entertain both adults and youngsters. Helen' Twelvetrees, Grant Withers and Shemp Howard play important supporting roles. “LET GEORGE DO IT” Everybody enjoys a good hearty laugh, and we. can guarantee you laughs you’ll really enjoy and’ long remember at the De Luxe Theatre on Monday in Cinesound’s riotously funny comedy, “Let George Do it,” starring George Wallace and a great team of comedians, headed by Jee Yalli, Letty Cray don, Alec Kellaway, George Lloyd and Harry Abdv. Made for laughing purposes only, “Let George Do It” has already enjoyed tremendous success and popularity in the cities and we unhesitatingly recommend it as the funniest film in years.
The limitless laughs are punctuated with i - eal thrills when a. racing speed boat runs riot with Wallace and Letty Ciraydon on Sydney Harbour. Further enhancing the entertainment value of the film is the fact that it is ideal for the whole family.
