MEETING AT ROTORUA (HH/! V I f\ I HOYS’ SUCCKSSKS A party of Opotiki athletes competed at the special holiday sports meeting run by the Rotorua Athletic Club, and returned very good perlonnances. The* competitors were: J. inskip, iC. Upton and I'l Wilson. All gave exceptionally good performances and easily eclipsed l times and distances made in Opotiki. l'X Wilson won the javelin throw off a. 50ft. handicap, the total distance being JOlfl. 2in. Incidentally Wilson gave the best threw of the da v.

10. Upton won the half-mile by 00 yards off tho7()yd. mark, his time for the race being I min. fkisecs. 't his is considerably better time, than recorded by Upton at Opotiki this season.

In the senior high jump .j. Inskip made the best jump of the ■da.v, clearing sft. Hiu. al, the centre of the bar. At the conclusion of the event, the Opotiki competitor was disqulililied. It was slated that he had not forwarded siillicient details ol his performance's. It appears that I lie Rotorua officials look rnll|er a higii-hnnded attitude as the rules state that the hamlienpper must object prior to the event—not afterwards. No proof of Ihi' incorrectness of luskip’s nomination paper was put forward bv the officials mid,it is understood that the Opotiki t'lab will forward a strong protest against: the Rotorua Club's' action. Actually in forwarding his performances the. Opotiki competitor overstated Ids performances this season, being under the impression that he had cleared oft. 2in., whereas the records show that his best, jump was sft. I in. At Hie meeting at, Opotiki on Kridny, November 25, luskip secured third place, from scratch, his height being oil. liu. A! the previous meetnig <m October 28th. Inskip won the high jump his best effort again being olt. liu. Since the last meeting Inskip has been training hard for tlm Rotorua meeting and he was no dmibl as surprised as the Rotorua ollicials at clearing olt. Sin.
