Temperatures. . / Temperatures recorded ill the North Island at 9 a. yesterday wore as follows :—A ucjklaiui. and Tauranga (3(3 degrees, Opotiki (38, ICast| Cape G 7, Gisborne 69, Napier, 70 and Wellington 61. Opotiki easily topped the list on Wednesday morning with a temperature of 7(3, Hast Cape registering 72 and Auckland only 60.
Flaming Youth, There is a farmer’s wife not fifty miles, from .Hamilton who spent rather an anxious forenoon on Saturday. Her youngest son ami a nephew were experimenting with a new rifle in the orchard. Another son was driving the family ear for the first time/ on a main highway, and the eldest was flying solo to; a neighbouring town. As she remarked to her husband, “J shall he glad when lunch time arrives and they're all round! the table again.”
Bogged in Her Carden. To I>u unable to move through being hogged 111 jto her knees, and unable to let anyone know of her predicament, was the experience of a woman at Abbotsford, near .Dunedin, during tiici week-end storm. \\ Idle cutting a. cabbage in the garden her feet went down in the mud created by the rain, till she was up to her knees. She had to remain until her daughter happened to look thorugh the window 20 minutes later, and went to her assistance. It was impossible toi haul her out. and eventually she sat on a box while she was dug out.
Trespassing on School Grounds. Trespassing on school -property at night, particularly l»v young couples, lias caused action to lie taken liy the police in Palmerston North. Offenders were dealt with recently, and although names were suppressed an indication was given that leniency would net. lie. extended in the future. The .matter was referred to the .Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Eraser, liy, a deputation representative of the Wanganui Education Hoard, and the -Minister said lie intended to instruct the police to press lor publication of the names.
A Successful Search. In 1915 a Dunedin man went to Australia and when relatives decided to try to locate him recently, the only clue they had to work upon was that iie had joined the Australian Forces during the Avar years. Inquiries were set going by the New Zealand Pe--turned. Soldiers’ Association and, with the co-operation of the Unturned Sailers’ and Soldiers’ Imperial Longue of Australia, this search was extended to New Guinea. The Dunedin man has not yet been communicated with, hut advice has heen received hy the N.Z.K.S.A. that lie is in New Guinea and his address has. heen forwarded to his relatives. This is not the furthest afield the N.Z.K.S.A. has readied, however, a man inquired for on a tormer occasion being located in the interior of South Alrien.
