Hnltquist M.B. and Mrs. H uitquist, were visitors to Opotiki lust night when they attended the annual prize-giving of tlici Opotiki District High School. PRE-MARRIAGE afternoon Miss J Jetty Thomson whose marriage is shortly to lake place, was the guest of honour at a very happy social afternoon held at, the residence of Mrs. ,1. JVllcCaldou. Hospital Hill on Wednesday. The guests each took a kitchen airticle in a charming blue shade to tone with the bride’s colour scheme Aor her kitchen. Outdoor games, clock golf, and quints were played with enthusiasm and several amusing competitions were also enjoyed. A very damtv afternoon tea was served iti the drawing-room which was artistically arranged with Iceland poppies. Mrs. AlcC’aldon expressed the good wishes of all present for Miss Thomson’s future '.happiness and called upon her to accept the many vtselul and attractive gifts. Miss Thomson thanked those present lor the gilts and the hostess for such a delightful afternoon.

There was a very huge attendance and an excellent programme ol popular music was supplied by the Eleetrotone Orchestra with extras hy Aliss A. I’irini and Air. J. Ale Donald. The duties of AI.O. were efficiently carried out by Mr. T. Hickey. Streamers and confetti added gaiety to the iuuction and novelty dances were pe-pulur, Winners lining Aliss I*. Nathan and Air. Aloxton. Alias Al. Parkinson and Air. ( . (lee and Alias lx. Alkirshall and Ml. O. Waterson. Mr. G. Fox was announced ns the winner o| a. hex ol chocolates. Considerable interest was shown in the results ol' the Christmas Hamper Competition, the winner being announced as “Llangollen ’ Royal Hotel, Gisborne (Mr. .Martin). The second prize went tm Mr. Brnadley, Opotiki, and 'he Convent, Optuinko, Taranaki, won the third prize. The announcement of the winners was greeted with continued applause. A dainty suppei was served Ini the ladies and dancing was enjoyed until the early hours.
