1½ TONS OF FIREWORKS
DISPLAY FOR GISBORNE SHI P.M FNT ARRIVES Cases of fireworks weighing 1} tons wort- landed at Gisborne on Saturday by coastal vessel from Auckland, and the consignment: represents a large order obtained by the Gisnorne I hir-ty-Thousn.nd Club from a factory in England. Early this year the club decided to purchase a display of fireworks superior to any brought to Gisborne before and through the services ol Mr. A. F. Salmon, who was visiting, England about that time, a line selection was obtained.
International troubles resulted in delay and a permit for the dispatch of the fireworks was withheld until October 22. The intention of the club was to hold the display on November 5, but owing to the late arrival ol the fireworks the fixture probably will take place some tijno in February. Some idea of the quantity oP fireworks may he gathered from the fact that the shipment included four large cases, together with a bundle, of sticks for the many rockets. Appreciation of the assistance rendered by Mr. Salmon was expressed by the club as it was possible for the goods to he- puichased at a most satisfactory cost.
