GISBORNE BREEDING EWES
NO FORWARD OFFERS YET □ RAFTS UN CONSIGNMENT No offers have been received yet for Gisborne breeding ewes for JanuaryFebruary delivery, and opinion in the Waikato is that buyers there will be content to wait this season to purchase tlii'ir requirements in tlieir local saleyards.
Store sheep have aroused little interest in the Waikato recently, and although at a recent clearing sale breeding ewes and ewe hoggets realised above ruling rates, the demand generally is very quiet. “As a result.” states a northern correspondent, “no business libs been, transacted for sheep for forward delivery and it is highly improbable that / a start will be made now, as at this time in previous years a large volume, of business was done with East- Coast districts. Consequently large consignments of breeding ewes from the East Coast and southern districts, which in the past have been sold forward, will be yarded in the Waikato. Buyers therefore will be able to fill their requirements from this source, probably at considerably reduced rates. “The prospects for the Auckland wool sale, which will be held on November 26, now appear a little, brighter than was anticipated some time ago, but it is doubtful if this will have any immediate effect on the sale of store sheep.” Already the lack of demand for store sheep lias been felt by Gisborne ffockowners. Usually by this time of the year large numbers of wethers have gone to the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Hawke’s Bay, but practically. no business has been done yet. Gisborne farmers may not be content to send so many ewes to the Waikato on consignment as were sold in previous years, but outlets must be found for the surplus sheep. If the sheep cannot he marketed as stores, larger numbers than usual may find their way through the freezing works.
