MOTOR ACCIDENT
TIMBER LORRY OVER BANK OCCCHANTS LUCKY ESCAPE Two men had a narrow escape from injury when, a large 10-wheel timber truck, owned by Mr. J. Sloun, mid driven by Air. J. McLean, went over the side of the road on the, Alotu highway. The accident was caused through the side of the roadway, giving way where the roatl had been bin It up some years hade. A Jingo. log was chained to the truck at the time and as the truck rolled over and over the Jog protected the cab and saved the men from injury. The truck was found to lie practically a complete wreck when pulled up on to the road. A hig diesel timber tractor ."'as used to Jnuil the truck hack to the road, the tractor being taken to the spot by another lorry. The log was also hauled to the roadway and delivered to the mill. After being loaded on to a truck the wrecked Jerry was brought into Opotiki last night hv Air. Sloan.
STRUCK BY OVERTAKING GAR A car. driven by Air. Alana Shaw, was struck by, an overtaking,car driven by Mr. T. (). Stott, on the highway near Timlianga, on Wednesday night.. ■Little damage was done to either ear, both being able to come into Upotiki. Two. other accidents liavo been reported during the week. Last night- a. ear collided with a horse on the Otara. road, in an attempt to dodge the animal the ear went off the road an,l nose-dived down a hank into a hawthorn hedge. On Tuesday night, a ear skidded in loose gravel oil a Corner near the Opotiki factory and crashed into a telegraph pole, which was broken by the impact. Tiie ear was extensively damaged.
