OPOTIKI MONTHLY MEETING „ •. ' , • . i ,", £ |, •; ; " - / The monthly meeting ef the Opotiki Women’s Institute was held on Saturday, evening, November 12th. Airs. Fisher presided over a large at’tendance of members. Proceedings were opened as usual with the singing of the Institute Song, -and the/recital of the Creed, by the president. A small amount of business was attended to and Airs. Fisher’s announcement that the takings at the hand concert amounted to £47. was greeted with applause. Mrs. Fisher thanked all who had extended hospitality to the blind members of the hand, especially mentioning Aliss Neilson’s valuable, services in making arrangements for the concert. Alention was uldo made of the Institute School to lie held on November 24th., at which all Institute members are welcome.
Tiie roll call was “Irish jokes”., and caused a deal of merriment. The Alisses Alaxwell (Tirohanga) contributed two duets and were warmly applauded. Airs. Kidd, in charge of the playing reading circle, produced an attractive little play entitled “Villa for Sale”. The following ladies took part: Airs- l*. Short, Mrs. P. Clark, Airs. A. Short, Aliss .Murray and Aliss Alaxwell. Airs. Wilson (Waiotahi), gave a most interesting address on topics in connection with “International Day”, and spoke of women’s activities in world-wide affairs., specially mentioning Women 1, s Institutes. She also spoke of the work in Australia oi the Country AYemcn’s Association. Airs. Burton was in charge of the sales table and did good business. The hostesses lor the evening were Mesdames Kidd. Mortensen, Hudson and Aliss Salt. In the embroidery work competition Airs. -Miller secured first place. Airs. Alelville came first with the three best roses and Airs. Jefferv 2nd. For three pansies Airs. Jeffery was first and A.-.ss Bridge second. "• The National Anthem terminated a very enjoyable evening.

The meeting opened with the National Anthem and Creed, alter which business was dealt with. An International programme had been arranged and commenced with the Poll Call, “Customs of Other Countries". which was most interestingly and amusingly answered. Airs. Sargent contributed the golden thread, the subject being “I he Asphalt Bake in Trinidad”. A “Flags of All Nations” competition, arranged hy Airs. Noble, was won hy Airs. Sargent. The competitions results were:—National Airs. Noble 'Egyptian) I. Sand Posy, Airs. Noble l. Ibe Brain Fag was won by Airs. Price. Points prizes gained during the \oar wen- presented, the successful competitors being: Airs. Pilkington 1, Mrs. Alulliern 2, Airs. Alc-Caldon 3. A dainty afternoon tea was served by tile hostess. Airs. ADcGregcr. and brought a successful afternoon to a close.
