£20,000 JEWEL HOARD
KIND AT LE TO UQ CLIP . , POLICE SEEKING GANG BOULOGNE;, bept- 28.— The discovery in a boarding-house at Le Touquot of a hoard ol jewellery, estimated unofficially to be worth between £3U,030 and £40,000, lias led to a country-wide search by breach detectives for a gang of international jewel thieves. A man and a woman in whose apartment the jewels were found are already in custody. According to their passports they are of Polish nationality, but the police refuse to reveal their identity. The finding of the jewels was the sequel to an argument between the woman and the boarding-house proprietor, who complained to the police. .There were irregularities in her passport and that of her companion, and the police searched their room. ® In a large jewel case were found a. quantity of bracelets, rings and brooches, five gold watches, six gold chains, gold coins and a gold ingot worth about £403. An International Gang. The man and woman assort that, they bought the jewels, but the police superintendent at Le 'bouquet said to-day -that it was believed they are part of the proceeds of a robbery at Barcelona by an international gang. The police have established, that the jewels do not correspond with those valued at £11,003 belonging to Mrs. ISiaud Knotl, of Sandgate, Kent, which wore stolen last week-end. They are, however, considering the possibility that the gang was responsible for the Sandgate robbery as well as for the robbery by masked any eel bandits of gold from a goods train at Saint Itorthelemy, Marseilles, early yesterday morn big. Detectives from the ‘Surete-Na-tionale here are now working on 'the case, and several arrests are expected.
