The two young people must have wandered about the tunnels of Hogger for days until they were starved to death. reeling Ins end approaching, Lacoinbe had firstkilled the girt with a bullet from his revolver and then shot himsclt. in his diary, that was found near his body, halt eaten up by forms, Lacombe attempted to describe their inhuman suiferings and the circumstances that led to them. He -epeated over and over again how brave and uncomplaining tlie Tuareg girl had I,ecu while they were expecting deathIt was purely through, the contents ol the diary and partly through other investigation that Mercier’s expedition could solve tlie mystery of Lacombo’s (.lisappearanee 20 years ago.
