COMMITTEE MEETING PROL’OSHI) BAY SUB-CENTRE Matters ot interest to athletes were discussed at tlie meeting ol tlie committee ol; the Opotiki Amateur Athletic. and Cycling Club on Friday night when Mr. C. Tabb occupied the chair. The To Puke Club wrote in connection with a proposal to form a Bay of Plenty sub-centre and to hold Ray of Plenty championships. Members were inclined to think that the idea was to hold the championships only in Je Puke. Mr. A. S. do Montalk moved that the secretary reply stating that the club Avas not ip favour of breaking away from the present arrangement and asking for further particulars. The question of procuring a suitable starting gun Avas discussed and it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of Messrs. Allen, Shaw and Hickey. Mr. Tabb mentioned the question of putting down a pit stating that Mr. Burrett had suggested placing sods of earth around the pit and lilling aaTLIi sand. Members thought tlie idea a good one but it was pointed out that competitors would be jumping upliillMr. tie Montalk said that he avouUl guarantee to returf the pit to be as good as any other part of the ground, and also returf the present pit. Some primary boys at school had made a first-class job of retuiTmg work. Messrs de Montalk, Tabb and, Griffin were appointed to meet the works committee of the Borough Council and seek permission to .make a pit. Mr. Sheeran was appointed call steward. Mr. Hickey suggested that the liandieappers lie with the starters belore each event to handicap any post entries. In connection with the lady competitors the following grades were decided upon, the age of competitors being counted as 91A 29th. October: Seniors, 1G and over. Juniors, between 13 and 10. A grade between 11 and 13. B grade to If. Handicappcrs for these events Avere also appointed. Air. C. Aiorris was appointed an assistant starter. Six cups presented by the Herbert Smith Trust Fund for hoys and girls Avill he presented during the season as challenge cups with miniature cups to be supplied by the club. Messrs. B. Anderson and D. Delireccny Avere appointed coaches lor young competitors and. Avill be in attendance at the reserve every night throughout the season after 5 o’clock. Mr. Griffin will also assist in field events. It Avas decided to write to tlu‘ "Waikato sub-Centro stating that the club desires to hold a hig day meeting on Anniversary Day. and to apply for that date. The question of procuring hurdles was discussed and it Avas decided to obtain a. number.
