The entertainment is to be held in the Regent Theatre, under the auspices of the Opotiki Women’s Institute. Summer-like Weather. A very warm day was experienced in the Opotiki district yesterday, the temperature being very high, for themonth of October. Later in the afternoon the temperature dropped fairly rapidly and the early part of the night was cool. Readings at various points in the North Island at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 63 degrees. Tauranga and Opotiki 62, Last Cape and! Wellington 68. Gisborne 69, and Napier 61. Transport of “Spud.” A special permit lmd to he secured for rail transport from Christchurch to the West. Coast of a huge metal anchor or “spud,” for the giant gold dredge being erected at ikamatua. Because of its. weight, the anchor can be hauled only at low spcels on the three trucks which are necessary to carry all its length of 62ft Sheep-Worrying in Hawke’s Bay. Complaints of sheep-worrying by dogs in the Napier district are- again being received by tlie Hawke’s Bay County Council. One farmer reports the loss of 19 lambs and three Owes recently, and that the number of sheep and lambs lost by him last year was 68. This fanner thinks that most of the dogs guilty of worrying are town dogs, which are not kept under proper control. hast year he shot 36 dogs 'caught in the act of worrying sheep, and only three of these showed any signs of sheep dog strain.
