“WILD AND WOOLLY” A wild 1 buckaroo out where the West begins, “Ginger”-Jane. Withers begins - where the wild AVest leaves oif in nor grandest Twentieth Century-1 ox comedy, “Wild and Woolly”, which opens Tuesday, at the De Luxe Theatre. Ruling runaway trains, getting her guntoting grandpop, played by Academy Award winner AValtor Brennan, into a duel, chasing city gangsters on a careening stagecoach, and roping young lovers into romance, Jane makes Buffalo Bill look like a softie. Completely surrounded l>v* her greatest cast, in the most hilarious show these, pandemonium-makers have ever been in, that Jane AVithe/s girl learns tba ways of the W 7 est from her oldtime)' grandpop, but what the AVest learns lroriTJane makes hilarious comedy. 'The original screen play by Lynn Root and Frank Fenton opens in the old frontier town of Mesa City, which is about to celebrate its first Pioneer Day Jubilee. Jane lias inherited tile feud between her grandfather and Horton Churchill, unscrupulous town banker, carrying it on with the hitter’s grandson, Jack S'*:?r!. Jane’s chief Stooge, is Carl “Alfalfa” Switzer, of “Our Gang” fame. They call aim “Zero,’’ hut he’s a regular adding machine for laughs. Jack’s aide is Scott, and both are rank tendorieet. Douglas Fowley plays the role of a big-city gangster out to help Banker Churchill in one of his nefarious enter- . prises. Their paths cross the romantic way of Pauline Moo-re. and Robert AVileox, who don’t- even knew they’re ni love until Jane ropes them in! Directed by Alfred Worker, with John Stone as associate producer, the film concerns itself with the perennial effort of grandpop Brennan to defeat Churchill’s candidate for sheriff, the fireworks and shenanigans of the jubilee celebration, and the foiling by Jane and lier friends of an attempted bank robbery. Replete with the Withers diet of mischief and thrills, liberally sprinkled with pepper and ginger, Jane’s latestcomedy is easily her best.
