LABOUR PARTY CARD EVENING! The semi-final of a series of card evenings, under the auspices of the Opotiki Branch of the Labour Party, was held last evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. Gosling and proved a great success. The large number of players thoroughly enjoyed playing the popular game of Flag 500, all entering jnto the fun with great spirit. The winners were Mis. >S. Maxwell, Miss J. Webb, Mr. P. Rumble and Mr. JWilliams. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs. B. Russell, Miss PShaw, Mr. W. Young and Mr. A. Litchfield. The travelling prize was won by Mrs. f\ Mortonsen and a special prize for the player gaining highest -points throughout the season was Avon by Mrs. J. O’Sullivan jnr- who had the grand total ol 166. Iwo competitions, the prizes for which were a nightdress and a box ol beautiful flowers both donated h.V, Mrs. \V. Burton, were won by Mrs. G. Oat toil and Mrs. G. Lysaght respectively. At the conclusion of play a dainty supper was enjoyed after which, Mr. T. Bedmaii. as M.C.. took the opportunity of thanking Mr. and Mrs. Gosling for their hospitality, this being carried by acclamation. Among the ladies present were: Mils- G. Gosling. .Mrs. I). C. TOA TOA NOTES (From Our Own Correspondent),, A pleasant time was spent in the Toa. Toa Hall on Tuesday evening when, a dance committee held, their usual three-weekly dance. The music was played l’. v Hr- * • Parkos and a much appreciated extra was rendered by Air. Ron Yardley. A novelty dance was won by Aliss N. lyric and Air. lion Yardley.
