BOXING

>' .x'ti « OPOTIKI ASSOCIATION’S LUCK : y WONDERFUL MATCH SECURED DIG EVENT TO-NIGHT (By “Gentle Art”) A memoraolc boxing contest should bo witnessed to-night- in the Regent Theatre when two ox the most sought alter professional boxers in N.Z. meet in a ten-round bout.

It is Something unprecedented in the history of boxing in Opotiki—even ,in the Day of Plenty—-for boxing enthusiasts to be afforded an opportunity of seeing such brilliant lighters in action.

.It has undoubtedly been a “lucky break” for the Opotiki Boxing Association after its several unlucky attempts to arrange good class professional matches. The association has had a real chapter ol; “knock downs” since it arranged the Finnigan-McKay light for Sept. 20th. F'innigan became ill at the last minute and the bout was eventually put down lor oth. October, to-night. On Monday evening McKay sent word that he would be imavailablcj owing to “llu” and then oi course poor Mr Secretary had to “get going” to re-arrange tilings. Gildo offered as a favour to substitute lor McKay, but then Fmnigau refused to fight Gildo (more trouble). After hectic hours at the telephone, Cultaux was communicated with, and agreed to light Gildo. This was finalised at 10 o’clock last night.

“Young” Gildo arrived in Opotiki last night and is a guest at the Royal Hotel.

Vic Cultaux arrives at 4..‘1() to-night and will be a guest at the Opotiki Hotel.

The amateur bouts are all arranged, as follows:

G. Lysaght v. Nicholson (Waikato) 4 rounds. L. Dennett v. Mhxnm (Waikato) 4 rounds. R. Lake v. Nioholls (Whakatane), 3 rounds. “Battling” Snell v. McLean (Waiawa “whirlwind”). 3 rounds. Bob Akiirangi v. Waller (Whakatane) 3 rounds. J. Robinson v. Hurrcn (Whakatane) Sliadow v. Clarke (Waikato) 3 rounds.

What n night's boxing! AVhat a trout is in store for fighting fans tonight. All the lending associations in the Dominion have boon endeavouring to arrange this limit and lo and behold a. “tin pot” association (no offence) gets tin l “lucky break”. The “house full” sign, should go up pretty early to-night, flood luck Opotilei 'Boxing Association!
