Two nominations were received lor the Bay of Plenty seat, namely, Ml-'A. Cl. Hultqiiist (sitting member) and Mr W. Stillivaii, bot'h. of Whalcatane. Light Rajirn Falls. A dry spell which lias lasted lor about two weeks was broken in the Opotiki district, when light rain commenced to fall early this afternoon. ’The dry weather, following alter the exceptionally wet spell lias had the elfeet of forming a hard dry’ crust on the surface, making the soil very difficult to work for crops, while the growth of pasture has also been greatly retarded. A good soaking would do a great deal of good at the present time.
