Rough Roads. •During, the past week, the OpotikiTaiieatua highway , lias been in particularly bad order, particularly in the Waimana gorge, jvhere there lias been a number of slips. Organ Recital. Although the organ recital to be given by Mr. Kady in St. John’s Church, to-night is being given in conjunction with the jubilee celebrations, the recital is to be one for tlie benefit of the.p.ubiic.generally. AVhen the organ was first installed, a special request was made that a recital should be given to which the general public should be invited. A splendid programme lias been arranged for tonight’s recital and lovers of music are looking forward to a real treat. Maori Elections* Maori, electors are displaying a degree of interest in politics not previously equalled, and the prospect of a third candidate entering the contest for the Eastern Maori seat is enlivening discussions of the probable outcome. Air Tiki Pa aka, Opotiki, is the probable third candidate, and he has spent part of the last week in the Gisborne district organising his campaign. in which he will oppose Sir Apirana Ngata .the sitting Nationalist. and Air R. T. Kolicre, the official Labour candidate.
