REMARKABLE TRIBUTES

MR HULTQUIST THANKED FOR SERVICES During the course of his address at Te Araroa during his election campaign, Air A. O. Hultquist received unusual tributes for his services as representative for tlie Bay of Plenty. At the close of his address, Air. W. I'. Aletcalfe, president of the local branch of the National Party asked permission to make a. statement, and on bcing given permission to do so, paid an eloquent tribute to the services rendered by *Alr. Hultquist, saying that irrespective, of political views, Air. Hultquist had undoubtedly served the electorate well, and he could not let the opportunity pass without expressing his personal thanks as well as those of the district. When Air Metcalfe had concluded his remarks, another well-known resident in the district asked permission to make a statement, and came forward to. the platform with a sum of money wrapped in a handkerchief, and asked Air. PLultquist to accept it as a token of the appreciation of his services rendered to the people in To Araroa. and surrounding districts. 'The parcel contained £SO and had been collected on that day and the previous one, and Air. Hultquist was invited to do as lie liked with it. Air. Hultquist in thanking ,those present for their friendly reception and for tlie vote of thanks and confidence carried, expressed his thanks as well to those who had subscribed such a large amount in so short a period, and informed the audience that lie himself was staking all he had on the election, so confident was he of the result, and that on the following day he would forward the £SO to the Head Office of the New Zealand Labour Party, to be hold in trust to meet expenses in connection with the Bay of Plenty Labour Campaign.
