At the Opotiki Police Court on Saturday, Jack Leef was charged wijth drunkenness and was convicted and fined. . Accused was further charged on Wednesday with the theft of two blankets in Wellington; and was remanded tc\ appear a week later in Wellington. Sergeant J. Isbister accompanied accused to Wellington. Thei Liquor Question. As usual a poll on the liquor question will be held at the same time as the general election on October 15. Three issues will again be placed before the people. An address on the liquor question will be given by the president of the N.Z. Alliance, the lit. Tiev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa. The address will be given in the Parish Hall on Monday night next.
Presentation of CuP. A pleasing incident at the Opotiki Hunt Club’s PoinT-to-Pomt Meeting was the presentation of a handsome cup presented by -Messrs Bond and Bond for the cleverest Hunter. The cup was worn by Mr. Geo. Leggett’s “Joy Girl”, ridden by Mr Teddy Kelly. Mr Mt-Uulloc-h. as representative for Messrs Bond and Bond, extended his congratulations and called upon Mrs F. Beehan to make the presentation which was greeted with applause. Saved by Perambulator. A fall over the banisters of a staircase and a drop of 30 feet might have had fatal results for a young man. Mr Harry Bond. Waipuktirau, had his fail not been broken. Mr. Bond was attempting to slide down tlie banister during a school ball in the "Waipuktirau Municipal Theatre. He fell into a pram standing on the concrete floor below. He was unconscious for some time and received a fractured wrist. Sale of Milk in Gisborne. Stricter supervision of the sale of milk and cream is being undertaken in Gisborne. Under the provisions of the Health Act. 1920, no milk cu-t-ream may he sold. except in hermetically sealed containers, from shops where kerosene, fruit, vegetables or anything that will contaminate milk or cream are stocked, and inspectors of the Borough Council and the Health Department have deemed it advisable that this regulation shall be strictly enforced. Fourteen shops in Gisborne will be affected, and by the end of this month they must either comply with the requirement of the regulation and make provision for the sale 1 of milk and cream in sealed containers or give up its sale. Some of the claries selling goods that are not likely to contaminate milk or cream will not heed to Make any alteration in their present arrangements. Praise far Air Travel. The opinion that air travel in Now Zealand compared* very favourably in speed, and 'comfort with that experienced in' Australia was expressed by MV.
